19th painting in NBC Oklahoma Artist Series features work by Denise Duong

The painting will be available to see at various NBC locations throughout December.

NBC Oklahoma has unveiled the latest painting in its popular NBC Oklahoma Artist Series – “It Is Here That We Stand” by Denise Duong. The painting explores the complexities of being alive. Her artwork gives viewers a chance to consider their past and acknowledge their future, while emphasizing the importance of being content in their present.

“In my painting the three main figures represent different parts of ourselves. The center figure represents the present. It is the most important part because no matter the chaos, she savors it. The figure looking backward represents the past. Her eyes are open, and she gazes at the viewer, acknowledging lessons learned. The figure representing the future has her eyes closed and even though she doesn’t know what the future holds, she is ready for it,” Duong explained about her work.

“We’re happy to welcome Denise Duong to the NBC Oklahoma Artist Series,” said NBC Chairman Ken Fergeson. “I believe with this work she has captured the universal struggle of maintaining the balance between looking forward while recognizing the past.”

Duong grew up in Oklahoma City as a first generation Vietnamese American. She studied at the University of Central Oklahoma and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The painting measures 60 x 48 inches and is acrylic, ink and colored pencils on canvas.

Duong’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in locations such as Canada, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Chicago, Park City and Aspen. Her large-scale public murals can be seen in Columbia, India, Utah, Kansas and North Carolina. Locally, you can see her murals at Stella, Peak Central, Lyric Theatre and many other places throughout Edmond and Oklahoma City.

The original painting will travel to NBC’s various locations between now and the end of the year. Stop by our banks in these communities on these dates to see the painting and pick up a poster of the work.
